Stock Compensation Records

Compare award, distribution and sale records.

Three questions.

Estimated reading time: 2 minutes

Stock-compensation records answer different questions. Named examples do not establish personal mortgage eligibility, tax liability or trading permission.

Distribution is not a displayed award

Fannie Mae’s October 7, 2026 guidance requires qualifying restricted stock to have vested and been distributed without restrictions; restricted-stock sign-on bonuses are excluded. This is not the complete underwriting test: documentation, history, continuance and income-calculation requirements also apply.

E*TRADE’s disclosure says certain displayed stock-plan values are not brokerage assets. Unvested values are hypothetical and exclude taxes, commissions and fees. Employer-supplied data may be corrected; the account statement is the official account record.

Read the actual award rights

A historical Schwab 2022-plan award agreement gives no stockholder rights until settlement through issued shares. Its named fair-value measure averages the share’s high and low New York Stock Exchange prices. This contract example does not establish another award’s rights or valuation.

Keep compensation and sale records together

Fidelity’s FAQ separates employer-reported W-2 compensation from broker-reported Form 1099-B sale proceeds. Its reported purchase-price basis excludes employer-reported compensation; its Supplemental Information form supplies adjusted information when employer data is received.

Fidelity says that supplemental form is not imported into third-party tax software. An imported 1099-B therefore does not establish that the supplemental information accompanied it. Retain both for qualified tax review; no individual adjustment is calculated here.
