A returned U.S. consumer loan ACH debit from a bank account can leave fees and an unpaid installment.

Trace one fictional payment

Fictional: a $200 loan debit is returned unpaid, then the lender resubmits it and it is returned again. The bank posts two $25 insufficient-funds fees. Fees total $50; the $200 installment remains unpaid.

Equal amounts don’t prove resubmission. Ask the bank for each presentation’s reference, status and fee; ask the lender what it received and what is due. Check before sending another payment.

Review the fee explanation

The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) describes repeated-presentment fees as a potential compliance risk for banks it supervises; facts and disclosures matter. That doesn’t determine your fee’s legality or refund.

Keep the bank’s disclosures and transaction records with the loan history. Contact both promptly; ask for a written fee explanation.
