Deleted Credit Item Reappeared? Check the Record
Compare both reports.
Estimated reading time: 1 minute
If a deleted credit-report item reappears, check whether it is the same item and why it was removed.
Compare the records
Keep the dispute result, the report showing deletion and the later report from the same reporting company. Compare the account reference, furnisher and disputed details. Ask the company when the later item was added and whether it treats it as a reinsertion.
Check the applicable rule
For information deleted as inaccurate, incomplete or unverifiable under the Fair Credit Reporting Act’s reinvestigation provision, the furnisher must certify completeness and accuracy before reinsertion. The reporting company must notify the consumer within five business days after reinsertion. This is not a deadline measured from when you discovered the item.
Other kinds of removal may have different rules. If the records conflict or you did not receive notice, ask the reporting company for an explanation and consider a new dispute. This does not determine a violation.
